How did fans get these giant banners past security at the Jones Dome on Monday night? “What’s that in your bag?: several large bedsheets and a can of black paint? Right this way, sir.”
The Ferguson protests have infiltrated Monday Night Football, as banners and a small march appeared during the 49ers-Rams game last night. One witness said that police kicked out the protesters, others said they were left alone and hardly anyone noticed. But we noticed.
The movement is called Ferguson October, and large groups of protesters gathered at several St. Louis locations over the past four days, culminating in a group protest at the Jones Dome. At one point someone unfurled a banner over the Jumbotron, and there was plenty of signage in the stands.
The protest is over the police shooting death of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, in Ferguson, MO, on Aug. 9. In addition, Vonderrit Myers Jr, 18, was killed last week by a white police officer in St. Louis. Other protests on Monday were staged at St. Louis City Hall, a local WalMart, a police station and other locations.
Several fans bought tickets to the Monday Night Football game and displayed banners — some reports say that the protesters were booed, others contend there was no reaction.
And then this woman happened after the game
