Bobby Shmurder VS Shonda Rhimes (same toilet, same sh*t)

At first glance a comparison between Bobby Shmurder and Shonda Rhimes seems irrational. How could one possibly compare the two? Shmurda the New York born 20 year old male Hip hop artist that has catapulted into the national spotlight with his hit record “hot nigga” and his even more infectious “shmurder dance “. How could one possibly compare Shonda Rhimes to anyone whose claim to fame is a rap record entitled “Hot Nigga”? I mean Shonda is a genius she writes and produces brilliant televisions shows that challenge societal norms. Mrs Rhimes has 3 hit television shows airing back to back on primetime television. Bobby Shmurder! Get the fuck outta here! You can’t be serious, right?

Damn Right! Modern propaganda uses all the media available to spread its message, including: press, radio, television, film, computers, fax machines, posters, meetings, door-to-door canvassing, handbills, buttons, billboards, speeches, flags, street names, monuments, coins, stamps, books, plays, comic strips, poetry, music, sporting events, cultural events, company reports, libraries, and awards and prizes. It is most likely that some of these media uses are surprising, but that only serves to show how easy it is to not even recognize propaganda as such. I say that to say Mrs Rhimes is as guilty as any rapper alive for feeding into the stereotypes that help shape attitudes for/of African American people. Specifically, African American males!

The last episode of “how to get away with murder” was my tipping point. I couldn’t take anymore! Beyond the obvious fact that all of the leading African American female characters in Shonda’s shows are married or at least involved with white love interest, this weeks show introduced the idea of Aja Naomi Kings fiancé Elliot Knight as the once upon a time I had a gay fling dude. The Fuck? In what world does this guy exist? I’m not gay I just exhibited a gay behavior once when I was young. I’m not on the DL I just had this one indiscretion when I was 16. My bad, I was horny please forgive my moment of weakness.

Weakness! Weakness is the word of the day. Weakness is why shonda continually sales these depictions of the Black male. Fitz can nail Olivia two rooms away from his wife in a security room without regard because he’s powerful. Viola Davis’s character is married to a white guy, because in American society a powerful Black woman could never find a complementary Black male. Right? Is this just my over critical eyes that see these themes represented in these shows? Oh but wait Viola is having creep sex with the Black detective (does this enforce the idea of the Black mans sexual prowess?) “Good for some sex “ but that’s about it.

Before you hyper fans come talking that… But Shonda doesn’t write on “how to get away with murder” she’s the executive producer BS, ask yourself what does executive producer mean? This is where I started doing the Shmurder dance!!! Cooning for the camera! Bobby Shmurder is to 16-20 something year old males what Shonda Rhimes is to middle aged black women. He represents hope a hope that one day I can someday elevate past my circumstance if I could just find the right hook and a catchy dance move or a president to sleep with. Hopes masked in self hate. I’m not a Shmurder fan but I try and give him the benefit of doubt, maybe it’s my old ears that just can’t decipher what a talented MC sounds like anymore? Or maybe he’s just trash. Maybe the levels in which his message penetrates the ears and minds of Black and Latino youth is just the right amount niggerdom programming to consistently keep black folk away from power. At some levels I empathize with Shmurder he’s young and impressionable, he grew up in the ignorance of hip hop (I say that loosely) culture. He may not know the error of his ways. Rhimes on the other hand is calculating! She’s brilliant! She can weave and story in and out of ups and downs as good as any writer of the 20th century. For her I have no empathy, for her I feel only shame. Shame that she purposely see her brothers as weak therefore she presents them to the entire world in that fashion. A few weeks back the NY times wrote an Op-ed that called Rhimes “angry” beyond the obvious racist implications of a white writer characterizing an African American “angry” I do have to ask myself … Shonda! Who hurt you? Until we get that answer I guess it’s better for me to just Shmurder dance on out of yall’s way, I mean Thursday is right around the corner.
