After BET awards it’s time to have a real conversation about hip hop! Hip Hop VS that shit that they celebrated over at Viacom headquarters the other night .

How do we qualify what is and what isn’t hip hop ?

who defines artistry? is it the actual artist or is it the corporations that distributes the product ?

Hip Hop! Real Hip Hop, Pure hip hop exist! I can name 30 MC’s that are dope that released projects in 2014 and nobodies heard of them. With the successes of Kendirck Lemar, J Cole, the industries infatuation with Jay Electronica (who has never released a full project ) how do we qualify hip hop? Financially Kindrick, J Cole, and the White kid McLemore did more numbers than any other new MC’s . So why is young thug the new face of this genre ? If it’s a business decision, what business man subjugates the profits of a more popular product to support and stand behind a lesser product? These are questions we’ve got to ask ourselves. We talk about the death of Hip Hop as if the genre has been co-opted, it hasn’t! Hip Hop is still here still pure. The real question is what genre of music is that- that’s being spewed across the airwaves? this isn’t hip hop it’s “Neo Coonery over traditional hip hop back drops.” I love hip hop and this ain’t that!
